Spikeball
Spikeball (also known by the generic term “roundnet”) is one of the fastest-growing backyard and tournament sports in the world. Two teams of two play 360 degrees around a small trampoline-like net, trying to spike the ball so the other team can’t return it.
Why Spikeball?
Spikeball is genuinely athletic without requiring specialized skills to start. The rules take about five minutes to learn. The first rallies are immediately exciting. And the game rewards creativity — there’s no fixed court, no set directions, just you and the net and your opponents.
It scales well: casual play in the park is fun, competitive play at tournaments is a different beast entirely.
How It Works
- Two teams of two players surround the net
- Serving team starts; after a valid serve, play is open 360 degrees
- Each team gets up to three touches to return the ball off the net
- Score when the opposing team can’t return cleanly
Skill floor: Low. New players are competing in their first session. The nuances of hitting angles, setting strategies, and defensive positioning develop over time.
